Morocco is a dream destination for photography and design lovers, as touched upon in our previous blog post. There is inspiration around every corner and no shortage of scenes or subjects every place you visit.
Something particularly striking about Morocco is its colours, they hit you with full force when you’re there and stay with you long after you leave. The colours of Morocco have of course been a huge inspiration for our bright and bold designs at BomBom.
We’ve put together some images that we feel encapsulate the impact colour can have on a visit to Morocco. These photos evoke experiences with colour that are totally unique to Morocco. We hope you like them us much as we do.
The City of Fez is the oldest in Morocco and well known for its dedication to traditional craftsmanship, including pottery, carpets, textiles and leather. The image below show leather being dyed in the tanneries and stained with turmeric to create the vivid yellow. Set against the hay, we love the contrast of textures in this powerful image.

Chefchaoen has to be seen to be believed. A town in the Northwest of Morocco, the buildings of this otherworldly mountain town are painted in a palette of over 50 shades of blue hues. There are various theories as to why the city is blue, but we know that the Jewish refugees that inhabited the City in the 1930s did so – although whether it was to represent heaven or to ward off mosquitos we do not know! We love this image of a corner of Chefchaoen, the yellow traditional Moroccan slippers against the bright blue – the simple but bold primary colours that contrast so beautifully with one another.

Essouria is a laid-back surfer town on the Atlantic coast. A wonderful contrast to the hustle of Marrakesh, people take life easy in Essoauria. You will find colour everywhere here, contributing to the picture-perfect feel of the town – it’s name in fact means ‘little picture’ in Arabic. We love this image of two men sat against the old walls of the city which frame the city in true fairy-tale style, basking in the setting sun.

The spices of the souks create a stunning palette we always associated with Morocco. We love the beautiful line up in this image, the colours so vivid they evoke the rich smells of the spices too. Spices famously define Moroccan cuisine and for us no trip to the souk would be complete without picking some up, taking a little piece of Moroccan colour home with us.
